FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

The first appointment is a BIG deal! You reached out to advocate for your mental and emotional wellness. Now we have the opportunity to sit down together. Out clinicians first focus on learning a bit about your history, what makes you uniquely you, and your desires for change. In this appointment, we’ll identify goals, nerd out about psychological theory a bit, and choose a direction that will support relief and change.

Frequency of follow-up sessions will be determined on the treatment plan and best practices for effective therapy. To maximize relief and learning, we refer to research and treatment recommendations of weekly sessions until we agree that progress is sufficient. Approximately 50% of clients engage in 15 to 20 sessions to experience sustained clinical improvement. Individuals with co-occurring conditions, personality disorders, or complex trauma histories may require longer treatment for therapy to be most effective.

Our goal is not for you to be in therapy forever… because we want you to feel empowered and experience significant improvement as you navigate living.

Appointments typically range 45-50 minutes. Some interventions require longer appointments or multiple appointments in a week. Frequency and length of sessions are determined by therapy type and the extent of emotional pain and functional interference in life.

We are a private pay practice, and are not in-network with insurance companies. There are several reasons for this business model:

1. Most private health insurance plans have out-of-network reimbursement. You get to choose your therapist without the constraint of insurance panels. Please do check with your insurance company or company’s human resources department to be fully informed of your financial coverage. You may also be able to use your health savings account (HSA) for therapy.

2. We are happy to provide you with documentation to submit to your insurance company to take advantage of your out-of-network benefits. The paperwork necessary is a monthly superbill that documents all of the information needed for you to file for reimbursement. You will also receive an invoice for each session.

3. Therapy is an investment for us both. We want to offer our years of knowledge and experience. Insurance companies can limit session length, frequency, and treatment goals. We want therapy to be catered to you without these limitations so that you have time-effective, catered results.

We offer both face-to-face sessions in Charlotte, NC, as well as virtual therapy in an online, secured video platform.

Please note that the licensure of your clinician may limit services if you live outside of NC and cannot meet in the location of our office.

It is paramount that you have the level of help that you need. As an independent provider, I cannot provide after-hours or crisis services.

If you are in crisis, please go to your local emergency room, call 911, or the Mobile Crisis Line (Matrix) at 704-566-3410.
